Frank Lampard Fired By Everton

Following a tumultuous tenure as manager, Everton has confirmed that Frank Lampard has left his post with the club.

In addition to Lampard’s departure, assistants Ashley Cole, Paul Clement, Joe Edward, and Chris Jones have also left the organization. Goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly will remain in his position as one of the few holdovers from the previous regime.

In the interim, Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will take over training duties until a new manager is appointed. The club has reportedly already begun the process to secure a new manager, though they have yet to confirm any names currently under consideration for the position.

Everton FC posted the following statement to the club website after news of Lampard’s departure broke: “Everyone at Everton would like to thank Frank and his coaching staff for their service during what has been a challenging 12 months.”

“Frank and his team’s commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the Club, but recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken. We wish Frank and all his backroom team well for their future in the game.”

Lampard joined the club in January of 2022 to much fanfare. However following the Toffees’ 2-0 loss to West Ham on Saturday, ownership had seen enough. The loss marks 10 consecutive matches in which the club has failed to record a victory, and dropped them to 19th place on the Premier League table.

Everton has already been eliminated from both the FA Cup and League Cup, meaning their focus now shifts to avoiding relegation. Something that the board of directors hoped was behind them after signing the former Chelsea midfielder to steer their squad.

While hopes were high that the native son of Romford, England could turn the clubs fortunes around, the results were underwhelming and marred by long stretches of inconsistent play.

Lampard finishes his career at Everton with a 12-8-24 Premier League record, good for a paltry .273 win percentage.

The Toffees will next be in action on February 4th when they play host to table leaders Arsenal.
