Napoli’s Victor Osimhen responds to latest PL links
Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has responded to the latest rumours linking him with a move to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old, rumoured with a switch to the Premier League, put the speculation to bed by stating he’s more than happy to remain at Napoli for the time being.
Osimhen hinted at a possible chase for a future challenge but admitted it’s a ‘privilege’ to play for one of the most historic clubs in the world.
Osimhen, understandably, garnered a tremendous amount of interest after a stunning season that saw him find the back of the net 18 times in 32 matches across all competitions. In the process he demonstrated an aptitude for scoring all kinds of goals, from a variety of situations.
Expressing his gratitude to Naples and its football club, the Nigerian said “I have experienced very difficult moments, even private ones, but Napoli has always been close to me and that is one of the reasons I am here. I’m happy, I’m in a beautiful city and a wonderful club.”
Several publications have linked him with the likes of Newcastle United, Arsenal and Manchester United. On the chatter around his immediate future, he added “They are just rumours of the market: I’m fine here and I’ve never had such close relationships with everyone as at this moment. I spoke to the president, he is the one who decides, and he reassured me by explaining the club’s plans. I am happy with what he told me and the purchases are of quality: words were followed by deeds. I am very happy to play with Napoli and we will see in the future.”
It’s important to note Osimhen feels at home because there’s a collective appetite for success. Napoli finished third in the Italian top-flight, seven points behind champions AC Milan. Having the joint-best defense in the league is promising looking forward.
Osimhen also admitted that he takes into account the traits of various strikers around Europe, but added that Didier Drogba and Harry Kane are his inspirations.
Napoli, thus, should look to launch a serious challenge for the Scudetto with Osimhen now settled and ready to flourish.
Having already snapped up Andre Anguissa, Leo Ostigard, Mathias Olivera and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, they’ve infused some depth for the long season ahead.
