A familiar face is set to rejoin the struggling Ottawa BlackJacks of the CEBL. The club announced Tuesday that guard Kadre Gray had been signed for the remainder of the 2022 season.
Gray was a key offensive contributor to the BlackJacks in 2021, averaging 14pts and 4.4 assists per game. The former U Sports MVP began the season with the Fraser Valley Bandits, however will reportedly be moving back to Ottawa to finish out season with his former club.
A prodigious scorer at the University level for Laurentian, he averaged 25.6pts/7reb/5.9ast/1.6stl in 81 collegiate games. Ottawa hopes to have Gray in town ahead of their July 6th matchup against the Saskatchewan Rattlers as they attempt to right the ship in what has been a disappointing start to their season thus far.
Ottawa, who is slated to host the 2022 CEBL championships, began the season with an 0-3 mark before dismissing head coach Charles Dube-Brais. Since then, they’ve gone 3-5 and have been in more than their fair share of close games.
With the addition of Gray, the club gets a proven offensive threat who is familiar not only with the city, but the team’s schemes and philosophies. With just over a month until the 2022 CEBL Championships roll into town, the BlackJacks are clearly banking on Gray to help guide them towards a late season surge.
