Chelsea eye Sterling amid Raphinha transfer
Boehly’s era has begun in London and new stars are likely to arrive at Stamford Bridge. As reported by many sources, the Brazilian winger Raphinha is set to join the Blues in the next few days. In addition to his arrival, the English newspaper The Sun wrote that the club is preparing an offer to bring Raheem Sterling to London as well.
According to the article, Chelsea are set to offer around €60 million to hire the Manchester City player, who is willing to move to London, for the next season. Additionally, the club from Manchester are prepared to consider selling the player if a good offer comes to the table.
“Man City have told Sterling they’ll consider a bid for him as they know they face a losing battle to keep the star, even though they want him to stay,” The Sun explained.
Chelsea are not the first team hoping to add Sterling to their squad, as the player’s name has been linked with different clubs since the beginning of this transfer season. Teams such as Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all kicked the tires on the 27 year old at various points this offseason.
As reported by the Spanish outlet Sport last week, the winger wants to leave Pep Guardiola’s squad and the Catalonian club is considered a good destination by the player. However, Sterling is not considered as one of the priorities for the club, which believe Raphinha’s signing and Dembele’s renewal are their main targets for this summer.
“The Englishman would be a good reinforcement for the right side of the attack, but Leeds’ Brazilian Raphinha remains the number one target,” wrote Sport. “In addition, the continuity of Ousmane Dembélé has not yet been ruled out, although it seems unlikely that it will happen.”
Sterling has been extremely important for Manchester City during the past few seasons and his departure would mark the end of an era in Manchester. The player who arrived at Etihad Stadium in 2015 has helped The Citizens to win four Premier League titles, five FA Cups, two Community Shields and one Carabao Cup.
The English international’s contract with Manchester City is set to expire in 12 months.
