RONALDO WILL MISS UNITED-LIVERPOOL GAME AT ANFIELD
Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of Manchester United’s team that faces Liverpool at Anfield tonight, the club revealed on Tuesday morning.
The 37-year-old will miss Manchester United’s big game against long-time rivals, Liverpool, after announcing that he lost his newborn son on Monday. Ronaldo and his girlfriend, Georgina, put out a statement on Monday evening, saying: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.”
“It is the greatest pain any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support.”
“We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
While Ronaldo received condolence messages shortly after breaking the news, from around the sporting world, including the club and his teammates, Manchester United went on to release a statement on Tuesday morning that read: “Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time.”
“As such, we confirm he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield and we underline the family’s request for privacy.”
In light of the heartbreaking news, Liverpool fans attending the game tonight are planning to stage a minute’s applause in the seventh minute for Ronaldo, according to SportBible, in solidarity with the player after losing his newborn son.
The club’s message to Ronaldo on Monday evening read, “Your pain is our pain, Cristiano. Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.”
Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, said they were expecting twins at the end of October 2021.
