23 year old LPGA star Nelly Korda announced that she has been sidelined indefinitely on the recommendation of her doctors after discovering a blot clot this weekend. It is currently unknown how much time Korda will miss as a result.
The world number 2 ranked golfer announced on social media Sunday that she and her medical team made the discovery following a normal workout. Upon conclusion, Korda complained of unusual arm soreness and decided to get it checked out:
The seven time LPGA winner is one of the Tour’s brightest young stars, having also won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In addition to her 4 wins in 2021, she also captured the first major championship of her young career.
Korda has over $6M in career earnings to her name already since turning pro in 2016. Following a successful stint on the Symetra Tour, the American earned her LPGA Tour card in 2017.
The outpouring of support came fast and furious for Korda as the LPGA, Golf.com, and numerous golfers around the world reached out in the hours after she revealed the news. Neither Korda, nor her medical team have indicated any cause as of yet for the blood clot, nor the severity of the issue.
Nelly is the daughter of retired Czech tennis pros Petr Korda, and Regina Rajchrtova. Her sister Jessica also plays on the LPGA Tour, while her younger brother Sebastian is a budding tennis star as well having won the 2018 Australian Open Boys Division.
The LPGA Tour’s next event is the JTBC Classic in Carlsbad, CA, scheduled for March 24th.
