Kane Passes Henry on EPL List

HARRY KANE PASSES THIERRY HENRY IN ALL-TIME PREMIER LEAGUE TOP SCORERS LIST

Tottenham Hotspur put a whopping 5 goals past Everton on Monday night as the North London outfit ran roughshod against the Scouse-based club in a demolishing 5-0 defeat. Tottenham were in tip-top form and were put ahead by a Michael Keane own goal in the fourteenth minute. Goals from Heung Min Son and halftime substitute Sergio Reguilon then sandwiched a 37th-minute strike from Harry Kane before the England striker sealed the scoring with a 55th-minute volley that he hit across his body.

The two-goal day for 28-year-old Harry Kane puts him a goal above Arsenal legend and all-time top scorer for the club, Thierry Henry, with a career total of 176. He’s just one goal behind Frank Lampard, Everton’s new manager, who saw his team succumb to a third straight defeat and remain 17th on the log, just one point from the relegation places.

Harry Kane has been one of the best Premier League players over the past 7 or 8 years and his statistics back it up. The Tottenham forward finished as the Premier League’s top goalscorer last season and provided the most assists, winning the Golden Boot and the Premier League Playmaker Award in the process. While he has still yet to win any trophies with both club and country, his talent and quality has been undeniable.

In 7 Premier League seasons at Tottenham, Harry Kane has finished the season as the league’s top goalscorer three times and been named in the PFA Team of the Year five times. He also won the PFA Young Player of the Year award in his first full season at Tottenham at 21 years old, finishing as the league’s second-highest goalscorer. He’s been the club’s top goalscorer in all seven seasons he’s played in the first team at the club and became Tottenham’s second-highest all-time goalscorer in official competitions in February last year. He is now just 25 goals shy of Jimmy Greaves’ club record of 266 goals scored across all competitions.

While the aim for Tottenham is to finish in the top four this season, a goal echoed by both the England captain and his manager after the Spurs’ win against Everton on Monday, most football fans will be watching keenly as Kane’s goal tally creeps ever closer to the all-time Premier League top goalscorer, Alan Shearer’s tally of 260. Kane is now just 84 goals behind Shearer and 32 goals behind Wayne Rooney who’s second all-time.

“The top four has to be our ambition,” said Harry Kane. “We are not the finished article yet but the manager has had time to settle in and, physically, I think we are in a really good position. We are in there and in the mix and we have to feel that pressure if we want to be a top team. We can’t hide from that.”

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte equated finishing in the Champions League spots to winning a trophy after the Monday game against Everton. He said, “You know I don’t like to speak about ambition and reaching a place in the Champions League because I like to play to win the league and win trophies, but in this situation, this could be our Champions League, our Premier League title if we are able to reach fourth place.”

While most people believe that Harry Kane is among the top three strikers in the world, the Tottenham forward insists that there is no secret to his success. Speaking about passing the goal tally of 2021 Premier League Hall of Fame inductee, Thierry Henry, Harry Kane said, “It is all about getting those chances and I am always confident I am going to hit the target. I always try to keep the ball low. Hard work and practice, it is no secret. Thierry was one of the greatest strikers we have seen, so it is nice to go above him in the scorers’ list and hopefully they keep coming.”
