Flames Acquire Tyler Toffoli From Canadiens
One of the hottest names on the trade market is on the move as the Calgary Flames have acquired forward Tyler Toffoli from the Montreal Canadiens, the club announced Monday.
Heading the other way, the Flames have agreed to send veteran Tyler Pitlick, prospect Emil Heineman, a 2022 first-round pick and a 2024 fifth-round pick to the Canadiens.
As part of the deal, Calgary’s 2022 first-rounder is top-10 protected and will convert into a 2023 first-round selection along with a fourth-rounder in the same draft if they’re scheduled to select in the bottom 10 of this summer’s NHL Draft.
Toffoli, 29, is in the midst of a four-year, $17.0-million contract that runs through 2023-34. The Scarborough, Ontario native features a $4.25 million cap hit in 2021-22 and for two additional seasons after this one, as well.
Through 37 games this season, the right-handed winger has averaged 17:31 minutes of ice-time per night, posting nine goals and 26 points. Additionally, he’s also registered 100 shots on goal, 46 hits, 15 takeaways and 14 blocks.
Once acclimated, Toffoli is expected to solidify Calgary’s top-six forward group, which already consists of Johnny Gaudreau, Elias Lindholm, Matthew Tkachuk, Blake Coleman and Mikael Backlund.
As of Feb. 14, the franchise currently sits second in the Pacific Division with a 26-13-6 record and 58 points over 45 games played.
The Flames are slated to host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, beginning at 7:00 pm MT.
