The Ottawa Blackjacks have re-signed Canadian forward Chad Posthumus for the upcoming 2022 season. Posthumus became the first player in CEBL history to post a 20/20 points/reb statline last year in the playoffs, and figures to be a key contributor on both ends of the floor for Ottawa this year.
The 6’11” forward had previous stops in Japan and Argentina, and sports an 11.2pts/7.4reb per 20 mins statline for his pro career. Posthumus is no stranger to CEBL competition, having been a member of the championship Saskatchewan Rattlers team back in 2019.
A native of Winnipeg, MB, Posthumus was considered one of the top High School prospects in Canada averaging an absurd 39pts/25reb/7blks during his senior year. The former NCAA Div 1 player becomes the first player signing announced by the Blackjacks now that free agency has opened.
“Chad is a great player who fits in the culture of our club. When he joined our team in August, he brought the energy we needed to pull off a great win against Hamilton in the CEBL quarter-final, providing an unmatched presence in the paint. This winter, he’s been proudly representing the CEBL on the international stage at the BCLA and it goes without saying that we wanted to bring him back to Ottawa for the 2022 season.” said Blackjacks GM Jevohn Shepherd.
The signing is significant for Ottawa as they look to play their first full season infront of capacity crowds in franchise history. During the team’s inaugural year, the CEBL operated out of a bubble, while their sophomore year saw capacity restrictions due to the pandemic. With Ottawa set to host the 2022 CEBL championships in August, the team hopes to build upon their past playoff success and have a deep run this summer.
That sentiment was echoed by Posthumus who stated “I’m very excited for the opportunity to be back here in the nation’s capital to build on our playoff run from last year.”
The Blackjacks kick off their season on Wednesday May 25th against the Fraser Valley Bandits.
