Alvin Kamara Arrested

What was supposed to be an event showcasing the best and the brightest the NFL has to offer, made more headlines for what happened off the field than anything that took place on it this past weekend.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara was arrested on charges of battery stemming from an incident at a nightclub in Las Vegas. Following his performance for the NFC side in the Pro Bowl, Kamara was brought into custody by Las Vegas Metropolitan police.

LVMPD were dispatched to a hospital Saturday where a person reported being injured at a nightclub. Upon further investigation, detectives determined that the alleged perpetrator was Kamara. The 26 year old was in town appearing in his 5th Pro Bowl at Allegiant Stadium on the Vegas strip.

According to an ESPN report, security camera footage appears to show Kamara punching a man, later identified as Darnell Greene, approximately 8 times, after which Kamara’s associates could be seen stomping him while on the ground. Kamara is reportedly being charged with battery resulting in substantial bodily harm which in Nevada is a felony. If convicted, Kamara could be looking at several years in prison.

The victim apparently lost consciousness, and suffered a broken orbital bone in addition to several other injuries as a result of the altercation. According to a piece posted on NFL.com, Kamara told police he believed the victim was running away after doing something to his group. The police report notes that security camera footage does not appear to show the man running away.

Kamara was released after posting a $5,000 bond Sunday night. The former Tennessee Volunteer was originally scheduled to have a court hearing on Monday, however that has since been pushed back to Tuesday, March 8th.

Neither the Saints nor Kamara’s camp have made any public statements regarding the matter.
