CU Acquires Card Ladder

Collectors Universe has added to it’s collectibles and grading portfolio acquiring Card Ladder, a sports card price and data company earlier this month. The news comes on the heels of CU acquiring Goldin Auctions in a separate deal which closed this summer.

Card Ladder is a subscription based service which compiles data on card prices, and population reports from various industry sources. In its current form, subscribers pay a $15 monthly fee to access all of Card Ladder’s features, though it remains unclear how this model will be integrated into the Collectors Universe suite of services.

In a prepared statement Nat Turner, CEO of Collectors Universe, said “We’re deeply committed to investing in collection management and pricing tools that provide every collector with the best industry information available…Card Ladder’s sales data, tracking tools and innovative predictive pricing technology is a great addition to Collectors Universe.”

While Card Ladder co-founder Chris McGill assured users that their services will continue to work with all grading companies and sources, he was also quick to point out several PSA specific projects they had in the works such as new PSA Set Registry integrations.

This latest round of acquisitions makes Collectors Universe arguably the largest player in the collectibles marketplace moving forward. With PSA grading, PSA autograph & authentication services, Goldin Auctions, Card Ladder, Wata Games, and Professional Coin Grading Services all under one roof, Steve Cohen and partners have essentially built a one stop shop for all things collectible.

Financial details of the purchase were not made publicly available.
