Koepka Dominates The Match

The latest installment of “The Match” was a decidedly one sided affair on Friday. Brooks Koepka dominated rival Bryson DeChambeau 4 and 3 to cruise to victory in their highly anticipated showdown at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas.

While Koepka carded 4 birdies on the day, DeChambeau failed to register anything on the negative side of the scorecard throughout their showdown. Bryson has been largely inactive golf wise since the US’s win at the Ryder Cup, electing instead to try out for a variety of long drive competitions instead.

Evidently that rust played a huge factor Friday as he would ultimately concede the match after missing a birdie putt on the 9th hole in their 12 hole showdown for charity. Following the round Koepka was asked whether the two had become friends since their viral feud earlier this season. Brooks replied with an emphatic “No”, but did state there was at least a level of respect between the two golf wise.

Yesterday represented the 5th installment of “The Match” series which are made for TV events. While numbers have yet to be released, the latest edition lacked much of the appeal of previous versions both in terms of commentary, and on course drama. Perhaps the best model for this event lies in incorporating cross sport promotions such as the Peyton Manning/Tom Brady showdown.

To date, The Match has donated over $30M to charities across America as a result of their made for TV events. The location and competitors for the next round have yet to be announced.
