The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without the services of 2nd year wide receiver Chase Claypool in their week 4 matchup against the Packers. After a limited practice Thursday, and a DNP Friday, Claypool was officially ruled out this afternoon with a hamstring injury.
Claypool’s setback comes on the heels of Diontae Johnson and Juju Smith-Schuster suffering their own bumps and bruises last week against the Bengals. Luckily for Pittsburgh, both wideouts practiced in full this Friday and are expected to be good to go for Sunday’s showdown at Lambeau.
The former Notre Dame receiver has 15 receptions on 29 targets this season, good for 211yds and 9 first downs. In his absence, the Steelers have promoted practice squad receiver Cody White, though most of the extra targets will likely be absorbed by Juju and Johnson in what figures to be a high scoring affair.
Anytime you hear the word “hamstring” when it comes to wide receivers, there’s always the possibility that this turns into a multi-week injury. Especially concerning is that the Steelers obviously felt it was significant enough to shut him down before Sunday, rather than attempt to get him loose pre-game. Claypool is definitely still worth rostering if your league has an IR spot, or a deep bench.
Juju & Johnson owners can fire up both wide receivers as decent WR3/Flex options this weekend. Pittsburgh plays host to the Denver Broncos in Week 5.
