The “Doink in Detroit” just earned Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker a spot in the record books. With Tucker’s record setting 66-yard field goal, an injury ravaged Baltimore Ravens team snuck past the Detroit Lions 19-17 Sunday afternoon, and likely saved thousands of survivor pool participants around the country.
Tucker’s 66 yard boot eclipsed the previous record of 64 yards, set by Matt Prater in 2013, and is just another feather in the cap of the most accurate kicker in NFL history. His previous career long was 61 yards which, ironically, also came against the Lions 8 years prior. Sunday’s kick also makes Tucker 16/16 on field goals attempted in the last minute of play for his career.
There have been only seven 60+ yard kicks made all time to take the lead with under a minute to go. Tucker now has multiple games in which he’s accomplished the feat. The Ravens kicker would finish the day with 17 fantasy points in standard Yahoo! league scoring.
Most leagues max out at 5pts for 50+ yard field goals, but if kickers like Tucker, or Butker keep booting them like this, we may need to create a special “6pt” category. It’s not everyday you can make the argument that a kicker was the team’s best player. Today you could. An historic day for the best kicker the NFL has ever seen.
