What seemed like the logical conclusion to the ongoing Trevor Bauer saga was made official on Friday as Major League Baseball officially extended Bauer’s administrative leave through the end of the season. The move also includes any potential playoff games for the Dodgers in 2021.
Bauer’s leave from baseball in the wake of allegations of sexual assault had already been extended 8 times before Friday’s ruling. The Dodgers prized offseason acquisition compiled an 8-5 record with a 2.59 ERA and 137Ks prior to being shutdown for the year.
While on leave, Bauer has still been collecting his MLB salary as his case makes its way through the legal system. MLB has not yet made any suspensions official, meaning that should the sexual assault allegations be substantiated, the league could still suspend the righty for portions of the 2022 season. A more thorough review of the case is expected this offseason.
The Dodgers have yet to comment on Bauer’s future with the organization beyond this season.
