Milwaukee Brewers fans have been waiting a long time for this moment, as the Brew Crew officially knocked off the Tampa Bay Rays in 5 games to capture their first ever World Series title on Wednesday.
Prior to this season, Milwaukee had only made one previous World Series appearance, coming back in 1982 when they were still an American League team. They would go on to lose to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games, and force fans to wait another 44 years for their next shot at a title.
And they would make sure they wouldn’t squander that opportunity, squeaking out several come from behind victories, and a 10-1 thumping in Game 3 to set the stage for Wednesday night. As he’s been all season long, Jacob Misiorowski was a force on the mound, going 5.2IP with no earned runs and only 1 walk issued. From there, JoJo Romero and Abner Uribe kept the Rays off the board, before Trevor Megill allowed the lone blemish on the night in the bottom of the 9th.
Offensively, Cooper Pratt and Brice Turang each had a pair of hits, while William Contreras stayed hot with a run and an RBI of his own. For his efforts, Contreras was named World Series MVP for the series.
“I don’t want to offend any of the other catchers in the league. The last thing I want to do is offend any of them,” Contreras said through an interpreter. “But sitting up here today, champion of the world, I feel like I’m the best catcher in the league. Again, that’s no disrespect to any of them. That’s the last thing I want to do. But today I feel like I’m the best catcher in the world.”
Contreras became just the 5th player to win both the World Baseball Classic as well as the World Series in the same year, joining Jackson Chourio, Antonio Senzatela, Alex Bregman, and Luke Gregerson in the exclusive club.
“It means everything because that’s the first time Venezuela guys win the WBC and the World Series,” Contreras continued. “It’s history, history for my country. I love Venezuela. It’s my country.”
The 28 year old and his teammates won’t have long to celebrate before they need to head back home to Milwaukee to continue the festivities for a fanbase that’s been aching for a championship for generations. The Brewers will hold their championship parade on Friday, October 30th beginning at 10am CT.
The route, which will begin at North 4th Street and West Wisconsin Ave will snake through downtown Milwaukee before concluding with a rally at Henry Maier Festival Park. Milwaukee has announced that the first 50,000 fans on site will receive free rally towels, though the actual number of attendees is expected to rocket past that figure quickly.
Despite winning it all this season, and sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers along the way, the Brewers find themselves behind the Dodgers at most sports books to win it all again in 2027. DraftKings currently has the Dodgers as the favourites at +310, followed by the Brewers (+500), Yankees (+700), Red Sox (+1100), and Mariners (+1800).
