Seattle Kraken prospect David Goyette has been suspended 20 games by the AHL on Tuesday for violations of the league’s Performance Enhancing Substance Program.
The 21 year old was taken 61st overall by the Kraken in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, but will now be sidelined for the nearly 2 months of action. Goyette will be eligible to return on April 10th when his team takes on the Ontario Reign.
Now in his second full season of AHL action, Goyette has registered 10 points (3G, 7A) across 47 appearances for the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
Also suspended was Chicago Blackhawks prospect Stanislav Berezhnoy, who will also be out of action for 20 games for a similar infraction. Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson released a statement on the ruling Tuesday saying “We were informed last week that Stanislav tested positive for a prohibited substance under the AHL/PHPA’s Performance Enhancing Substance Program.”
“While Stanislav did not knowingly take a prohibited substance, we believe his positive test is a result of a supplement he was consuming at the time. Stanislav has taken full responsibility for the situation and the organization praises him for the maturity and accountability he has shown. The Blackhawks organization fully supports Stanislav and knows he will use this as an opportunity to grow as he continues his development.”
Berezhnoy has already served the first game of his suspension, and will be eligible to return on April 11th against the Grand Rapids Griffins. The 22 year old signed as an undrafted free agent with the Blackhawks organization.
