New York Jets Sign WR Garrett Wilson To 4 Year Extension

The New York Jets have come to terms on a 4 year, $130M contract extension with wide receiver Garrett Wilson the club confirmed.

The deal secures one of New York’s top offensive weapons through the 2030 NFL season after the club picked up the 1st rounder’s 5th year option this offseason. Wilson had previously told members of the press “I’m hopeful I’m a Jet for life…And that we get this thing rolling and that all of our best days are ahead of us,” back in May.

The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year has posted at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 3 NFL seasons, becoming the first Jet in franchise history to do so. Overall, Wilson has averaged 1,083 yards and 5 touchdowns per year across 51 total games.

With 2 seasons still remaining on his rookie deal, Wilson is set to earn $150.3M over the next six years. According to reports, his new pact will feature $90M in guaranteed money, a $13.75M signing bonus, a $20M option bonus in year 2, and a $10M option bonus in year 3.

The deal also ends speculation regarding Wilson’s future with the organization following a tumultuous 2024 NFL campaign. According to several sources, the 24 year old became so disillusioned with the direction of the team, that had the front office brought QB Aaron Rodgers back for another year, he would have formally requested a trade.

With Rodgers now in Pittsburgh, and former top pick Justin Fields expected to operate as QB1, things seem to have mellowed out in Jet land this offseason.

Nevertheless, the team’s front office still has their work cut out for them, as Wilson’s new deal is the first of several high profile players who will require extensions in the coming months. Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, and Jermaine Johnson will both be looking for long term deals, as will running back Breece Hall.

With Hall set to become a free agent at season’s end, the 24 year old will be highly motivated to put together a career year in 2025 to secure a lucrative extension in the always volatile RB market.
