Montreal Canadiens forward Kirby Dach will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his right knee the team announced Friday.
“Forward Kirby Dach underwent successful surgery to his right knee,” the club announced via social media. “The procedure was performed in Montreal by Dr. Thierry Pauyo and a full recovery is expected before the start of next season.”
The injury marks the 2nd time in as many seasons that a knee injury has ended Dach’s campaign prematurely. In 2023-24, the 24 year old missed all but 2 games after tearing his ACL.
The Fort Saskatchewan, AB native has 43 goals and 121 points across 269 career games split between the Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks. Originally drafted third overall by the Blackhawks in 2019, he was subsequently acquired by the Habs in exchange for the 13th overall selection at the 2022 NHL entry draft.
Since joining Montreal, he has yet to suit up for more than 60 games across either of his 3 NHL campaigns thus far. During his time in Montreal, he’s registered 24G, and 38A across 117 games as he’s battled a variety of lower body injuries.
Montreal is currently in the thick of the Eastern Conference wildcard race, with 61 points with 23 games left to play. They currently sit five points back of the Red Wings and Blue Jackets for the final spots in the East.
The Canadiens are next in action on Saturday night against the Buffalo Sabres.
