Coming off back to back national championships, and seeing his name linked to several high profile NBA coaching positions over the summer, UConn head coach Dan Hurley has re-upped with the school on a new 6 year, $50M contract.
According to reports, in addition to the new pact, which will see Hurley earn an AAV of $8.33M per season, the 51 year old will also be eligible to receive several performance based incentives throughout the lifetime of the contract.
Not including incentives, Hurley is set to earn: $7.8M in 2024-25, $8M in 2025-26, $8.2M in 2026-27, $8.4M in 2027-28, $8.6M in 2028-29 and $8.8M in 2029-30. The former Seton Hall point guard has amassed a 141-58 record since joining the Huskies, and will be looking to complete a three-peat of championships next spring.
Because of his recent run of on court success, Hurley was heavily linked to the vacant Los Angeles Lakers head coaching position over the summer. So much so, that a reported 6 year, $70M offer was alleged to have been on the table if the Huskies bench boss wanted it.
However, in the end Hurley opted to remain in college for the time being, forcing the Lakers to pivot to JJ Redick as their plan B.
The 2024 Naismith coach of the year award winner will enter the season as the co-favourite alongside Kansas and Alabama (all at +1000 at most sports books) to cut down the nets when all is said and done.
