Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom returned to the ice with the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers for the first time since suffering a fractured finger at practice 9 days prior.
Reports from practice indicated that the net minder spent over an hour on the ice and looked normal in all of his movements, suggesting a return to action is in the near future. The 33 year old has a 6-8-2 record this season with a .896 save percentage and a 2.94 goals-against average.
While his on ice play has been up and down in 2023-24, the Flames have won just one of their last 5 contests since Markstrom went down with his injury. Overall the club is 11-14-4 on the year, and currently sit 19pts back of the Pacific leading Golden Knights.
Dan Vladar and Dustin Wolf have been splitting time between the pipes in Markstrom’s absence to date, with neither exactly seizing their opportunity to wrest the starting goaltender title away from the injured Swede.
Calgary is next in action Thursday at 8pm ET against the Minnesota Wild.
